Nepalis Spend 72.9 Billion Rupees Traveling Abroad

Spending by Nepalis traveling abroad, as well as foreigners traveling in Nepal, have both increased dramatically, the latest report by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) finds. However, Nepalis traveling abroad spent Rs. 17.7 billion more than tourists traveling in Nepal. The nature of Nepali travel also differs from those of foreign tourists coming here. An increasing number of Nepalis travel as international tourists, but the vast majority are going abroad as students, workers, and other service seekers. The NRB data is for the first 11 months of the fiscal year (Mid- July 2016 to June 2017) which ends, this weekend.

An article on the issue has been published by The Kathmandu Post, today. In it, the Executive Director of NRB is quoted as saying: “This is largely because of a rise in expenditure of Nepalis who travel overseas seeking employment, healthcare, and education services.”
